Progress in AAAD’s first year
In 2024, its first year, the African Alliance for Access to Data continues to grow in members and activities.
By end of year:
- Core documents have been agreed
- More than 50 people and organisations are involved in monthly meetings (find our members here)
- Four resource output documents have been developed in draft (explore our outputs here)
- A major statement was issued at the UNESCO conference on the International Day for Universal Access to Information.
- PenPlusBytes has been contracted to deliver practical tools for election stakeholders about how their work can leverage access to data.
- The Alliance has been flagged at more than 10 gatherings around the continent.
- Work has begun towards a possible instrument from the African Union, through the good offices of the Special Rapporteur for Freedom of Expression and Access to Information at the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
There’s much more to be done!
